If not, stay with Premiere, simply because it is updated more than FCP is.For people that get paid to edit film, video, television, etc. Since you already got the Macbook, try the free Resolve version and see how it performs for you. If video editing is your main work to do on that laptop, you should have first thought if you wanted Resolve or FCP, and then decide to get a macbook or a PC laptop (you'd need an nvidia RTX laptop with 32 GB of RAM for best Resolve performance, these start at $2500). I think you did that Macbook purchase backwards. FCP does not see many meaningful updates anymore. Its edit mode is really powerful now compared to older releases. As for catching up with FCP, I'd say it has surpassed it with the latest release. However, on the upside, it's free, and it comes with fusion, and audio editing. It also requires 32GB of RAM if Fusion is to be used (16 GB for the rest of the app). Resolve does need a powerful system though, and it's best used with a PC with an nvidia card (instead of an ATI). You don't need the paid version unless you're doing really pro stuff. But is it really? (I'm not exactly sure if my GPU is powerful enough to get the same results as showed in the videos with Resolve) Also, new FCPX update is coming up in Fall, but I don't think there's any more room to push the render speed any further haha I've watched some videos on youtube and it looks like Davinci is slowly catching up on Final Cut Pro with speed. But now I'm just not sure whether I should buy Final Cut Pro and edit with that workflow or go all-in with Davinci Resolve. If FCPX was for free, I'd edit in Final Cut and colour grade and track text in Resolve. But on the other hand, Resolve is the industry standard for colour grading, offers amazing mask and text tracking with render speed comparable to Final Cut Pro. Final Cut Pro, to me, looks much friendlier after playing with both programs for a few minutes. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Resolve's UI. I do basic editing (speed ramps, colour grading), no visual effects other than some text tracking and adding motion blur. But I just can't decide which one to get. I've just bought the new MacBook Pro (i9, 16GB RAM, 560X GPU) so Final Cut Pro and Davinci Resolve came into my mind. I've been thinking about switching from Premiere Pro.
